The Chinese New Year is also known as ‘Spring Festival’ in China. It is an important Chinese festival celebrated with the change of lunisolar Chinese calendar. Celebrations start from the evening preceding the first day, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar month. The first day of the Chinese New Year this time is 28th January, initiating the year of the Rooster.
The Rooster is one of the 12-year cycles of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar. An Earthly Branch character represents the year of Rooster. The English name for Rooster is Cock or Chicken.
