The changing the colour of your cab can make it easy for you to identify a particular cab service & there are rules set for advertising in taxis. As a part of these reforms, there are reductions to the surcharge for card payment for taxis.
The surcharge incurred when passengers pay their taxi fare using a debit or credit card, voucher or app is 5 per cent. It is half of the original surcharge, and it is inclusive of the GST. Now 5% is the maximum amount the Taxi service can charge.
As a passenger, if you get a bill with more than 5 % surcharge, please retain your receipt and contact either the payment provider or your card company/bank in the first instance. Passengers wishing to provide feedback or make a complaint should contact the TSC
The five per cent surcharge is the maximum amount that can be charged on top of the fare and is inclusive of GST. If the fare is $100.00, inclusive of the base fare and all other additional payments as agreed along with GST, then a surcharge of no more than $5.00 may be charged. The total cost to a customer is $105.00. The service can’t add Merchant fees to the surcharge.
